Chikodi:Exquisite Natural Hair by STERFON DEMINGS

The constant evolution of today’s hair industry is hard to keep up with. Then there are the trendsetters who set the pace. One such trendsetter is natural hair artist Chikodi Ikegwu. This Nigerian born artist has extensive knowledge in her area of expertise. In her native country Chikodi began honing her talents long before her formal cosmetology training began in the United States. Ms. Ikegwu had already developed skills in the art of razor cutting, weaving and the intricacies of braiding.

Combining these life experiences with her formal cosmetology education Chikodi has compiled 20 yrs. of experience, quite a feat for such a young woman. It has all been time well spent. Chikodi embarked on her professional training at the Career Training Institute in Orlando Florida graduating with honors.
Ms. Ikegwu’s training has carried her throughout the U.S. and different continents focusing on quality education. With this great wealth of education and superb people skills she has been propelled into many different arenas.
As an Educator, Model, and Spokesperson, Chikodi has had the opportunity to work with several different haircare companies such as Design Essentials as a guest artist, Prestige D’Afrique for approximately 3 years as a platform artist, AfroWorld as a platform artist and currently as model, spokesperson, and platform artist for the Jamaican Mango & Lime line of natural haircare products. What a busy lady you say, it doesn’t stop there. This wonder woman also maintains a bi-coastal clientele between Orlando Fla. and Los Angeles, Ca., a truly hectic schedule,”only a true passion for the work and knowing I’m setting an example for my son keeps me going”, says Chikodi.

On the international scene Chikodi has lived, worked and studied in exotic locales like St.Thomas, the Bahamas, Jamaica and Ghana for the sake of name dropping albeit quite humbly. And then there are
the accolades including being dubbed The World’s Best Braider (1999) at the Atlanta Natural Hair and Beauty Show. Her work has been featured in magazines like Sophisticates Black Hair, Modern Braids Braids and Beauty, Hype Hair etc. And by the way she’s no stranger to the Entertainment Industry either.

Having worked with many celebrities she flows smoothly from salon to celebs. Some of the industries finest have been blessed by her touch including Monica, Shanice, the cast of Taina on Nickelodeon, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Lalette Littlejohn and Angie Stone to name a few. Hold on it doesn’t stop there, what else you ask? This is truly a Multi-talented Artist. Chikodi is also a designer and maker of fine natural gemstone jewelry. Her jewelry designs are being featured in the Eddie Murphy movie Norbit, and several videos, television shows and print ads.

A Phenomenal Woman is she, as an organizer of fashion shows and photo sessions she unselfishly includes other professional hairstylists. Chikodi also likes to share her vast knowledge in seminars which she offers twice yearly and soon to be featured in her upcoming DVD and video series. The series will explore techniques in braiding, weaving, loc extensions and her specialty “TRANSITONING” making that smooth move from chemically treated hair back to natural and healthy with ease. With all this complexity comes a gentle spirit and welcome sincerity.

Chikodi says,” My approach to natural hair care is simple, quality products, professional customer care and most important SERVICE, which is often forgotten in the haste of our profession that used to be based on SERVICE.” This gracious entrepreneur has so much more to share with the beauty industry, from her radiant inner beauty to her proud African heritage Chikodi is truly a Trendsetter to watch.
